Make a list of ways you see similarities between this passage and Old Testament stories. Why do you think John was so careful to record this chapter this way?

Is the Jesus you read about in this passage different than the image you have of Jesus in your mind? How so? Does it surprise you that he's on the attack here? What implications does this have for your life?

When are you tempted to seek out God's blessings instead of wanting Jesus himself? What would it look like for you to want more of Jesus than his blessings? How would your life be different?
